竹材料の活用方法をデジファブから模索しおでん屋をひらく
Oden stall that explored ways to utilize bamboo materials from digifab.
竹を対象とした CNC 加工の可能性を模索することをテーマとし、ShopBot で竹に仕口加工を施し組み立て、竹製の屋台を作成した。屋台ではおでんをふるまった。メニュー表もCNC を用いた彫刻加工により作成した。コラボメンバーに古木の CNC 加工と木材流通の研究に取り組んでいた経験がある宮本瑞基氏 ( 合同会社 Poietica) を迎え、お互いの知見を共有しながらプロジェクトを進めた。
The theme was to explore the possibility of CNC processing of bamboo, and a bamboo stall was made by machining and assembling bamboo with ShopBot. Oden was served at the stall. The menu table was also created by CNC engraving. Mizuki Miyamoto (Poietica LLC), who has experience in CNC machining of old wood and research on wood distribution, was invited as a collaborator, and the project was carried out while sharing each other’s knowledge.
CNC 加工による継手で古民家の古材と新材を組み合わせたモックアップの写真に惹かれた我々は、コラボを依頼しプロジェクトはスタートした。本プロジェクトの開催時期は 12 月初旬であり、イベント当日にみんなで製作物を囲んで暖かいものを食べようという思い付きがあった。そこで冬の代名詞おでんにまつわるものとして、屋台をつくることとなった。
Attracted by a photo of a mockup that combined old and new wood from an old private house with CNC-machined joints, we asked for collaboration and the project was launched. The project was to be held in early December, and we had the idea of having something warm to eat on the day of the event, surrounded by our creations. The idea was to create a food stall related to oden, a dish synonymous with winter.
最終製作物の加工・組み立てはイベント当日に行ったが、設計や接合部の試作は事前に行った。加工実験では、①円形の竹の固定方法、②水分を含んだ状態の竹の加工、③所定の位置へ仕口を加工する位置合わせ、以上の 3 項目の検討を行った。
The processing and assembly of the final product was done on the day of the event, but the design and trial joints were made in advance. In the processing experiment, the following three items were examined: (1) how to fix the circular bamboo, (2) processing the bamboo in its moist state, and (3) alignment for processing the joints to the specified locations.
屋台の加工はイベント当日にゼロから行った。京都の放置竹林問題に取り組む方から譲っていただいた竹を運び込み、メンバー総出で CAD 上で設計した仕口のマーキングを行った。竹へのマーキングや、CNC への固定時の位置合わせなど、手作業の精度に頼ってしまう部分があり課題点となった。
The processing of the stall was done from scratch on the day of the event. Bamboo donated by a Kyoto resident who works on the issue of neglected bamboo forests was brought in, and all members worked together to mark the workpiece designed on the CAD system. The marking of the bamboos and the positioning of the bamboos when they were fixed to the CNC machine were all done by hand, and this was an issue that needed to be addressed.
