Trying to see the invisible. Challenging the smallest project
FabCafe Tokyo にて行われた、昆虫の観察ワークショップ。理化学研究所バイオリソース研究センターにて酵母類の菌株の研究を行なっている遠藤力也氏による、ナラ枯れを引き起こす原因菌を媒介するキクイムシ、またキクイムシのもつマイカンギアと呼ばれる構造のレクチャーが行われた。キクイムシは 5mm 以下と小さく、肉眼ではで観察することが困難なため、我々 ND3M がキクイムシをフォトグラメトリにより 3D モデル化、またワークショップ参加者がデザインしたマイカンギアをモデルに反映させて 3D プリントするワークショップを実施した。
Insect observation workshop held at FabCafe Tokyo. Dr. Rikiya Endo, a researcher of yeast strains at the RIKEN BioResource Center, gave a lecture on the Bark beetle, which is a vector of the fungus that causes oak wilt.
He also gave a lecture on the structure of the mycangia of the bark beetle, which is a vector of the fungus that causes oak wilt. Bark beetles are small (less than 5 mm) and difficult to observe with the naked eye, so we at ND3M. We, ND3M, made a 3D model of Bark beetle by photogrammetry and conducted a workshop to print 3D model of Bark beetle with the design of mycangia made by workshop participants.
当初、数センチ程度を想定していた 3D スキャン方法ではキクイムシに対応することができず、メンバーの写真撮影の知見を生かし様々な 3D スキャン方法を試していくこととなる。
The 3D scanning method, which was initially designed to scan a few centimeters, was not able to handle the yellow beetle, and the team members decided to experiment with various 3D scanning methods, making use of their knowledge of photography.
本プロジェクトでは対象物が小さいため、安価な 3D スキャナーでは対応することができずフォトグラメトリにて 3Dモデルを得ることとした。
In this project, the object was too small to be handled by an inexpensive 3D scanner, so a 3D model was obtained by photogrammetry.
